ABC Delaware made news this spring in a two-part series on WHYY-TV Channel 12 about the coming worker shortage in the construction industry what ABC Delaware is doing to devise a long term solution.
Delaware's construction industry employed 28,700 workers in December 2006 according to the Delaware Department of Labor. By 2014, that number is expected to grow by another 3,900.
But employers will require a labor pool more than six times that large to fill those jobs. The shortage stems from a number of factors including: again workforce; competition from other industries; a negative image of the construction worker; and educational barriers.
