2012 CEFD scholarship applications mailed and available online

ABC's Construction Education Foundation of Delaware (CEFD) has announced the beginning of the 2012 scholarship application process. Applications have been mailed and the application is also available on the ABC Delaware website.

"The scholarship is presented annually to a graduating vo-tech student who is a member of the ABC Student Chapter in his/her school or a dependent of an ABC Delaware member company employee who is entering a postsecondary institution studing in a construction-relation field," said ABC Delaware Chairman John Gooden. "The Careers in Construction Committee has worked hard on this scholarship program for the past two years. As the studies have shown, the average age of a tradesperson is increasing, and we need to support students who are pursuing a construction-related career. It's the future of our industry!"

To be considered for a scholarship, the candidate must submit the following:

  • Completed application by 4/1/12 (signed by company sponsor and the high school principal)
  • Letter of acceptance from postsecondary institution

In 2011 CEFD presented two scholarships

In January of 2011, ABC reinstituted The Construction Education Foundation of Delaware or CEFD. This foundation is a 501 (c) 3 subsidiary of ABC Delaware. The mission of CEFD is to assist the construction industry's educational and training needs by offering scholarships to qualified construction education students.

The scholarship program was developed for students graduating from high school and continuing their education at a post secondary institution in a construction related field. The scholarship is available to dependents of employees who work for an ABC Delaware member or graduating vo-tech students who are a member of an ABC Delaware student chapter.

Applications were accepted by CEFD, and interviews with the finalists were conducted by a subcommittee of the ABC Careers in Construction committee. The scholarship winner receives $1,000. The winner can apply every year for an additional $1,000 as long as they are still in a construction related major and carry a 3.0 GPA.

2011 scholarship finalists were so impressive that the CEFD subcommittee decided to recognize both of them.  Kaitlyn Kerr will recieve a one time stipend of $1,000 to begin her college career in construction.
