Effective April 2010, the U.S. EPA issued a rule requiring the use of lead-safe practices and other actions aimed at preventing lead poisoning.  In order to obtain the certification, contractors must pass a Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Safety Training course.  Common renovation activities can create hazardous lead dust and chips by disturbing lead-based painting that can be harmful to adults and children.  The rule will affect paid renovators who work in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities including:

  • Renovation contractors
  • Maintenance workers in multi-family housing
  • Painters and related trades

This class will teach contractors how to use safe work practices as required by the regulation, record keeping, notification requirements, cleanup procedures, and training non-certified workers.
