The winner of the 2011 Charter Cup is Rick Rettig of Merit Mechanical.
This award is presented annually to the ABC contractor member who exemplifies the true meaning of the Merit Shop philosophy and has contributed most to the success of the association. Nominations for this award are solicited from the general membership and voted on by the Board of Directors.
“Rick has a quiet and reserved personality but behind the scenes is a strong supporter of ABC and our values,” said ABC Delaware President Ed Capodanno. “His company has been a member of ABC Delaware since 1985. He was a member of the ABC Board of Directors in the 1980s and again in the 2000s. He’s held every office in the association including Chairman of the Board and served a 3-year term on the ABC National Board of Directors.
“Rick has always supported ABC’s efforts to protect free enterprise and open competition in Delaware,” continued Capodanno. “He is an avid supporter of ABC and promotes our association on a daily basis with his employees. He has served as a member of the Legislative/Legal Rights Committee, the Careers in Construction Committee, and has been the ABC member liaison to the St. George’s High School ABC Student chapter for the past 2 years. One of his major accomplishments was helping to re-institute the Construction Education Foundation of Delaware, a subsidiary of ABC Delaware that provides scholarships to graduating high schools students that pursue a post secondary degree in a construction related field.”
According to Capodanno, Rettig has always been there to help ABC on legislative matters, growing membership, promoting the importance of engaging future leaders into our association to create the next generation of ABC supporters, and his company is big supporter of the New Castle County Vo-Tech School District co-op program.
“Rick has been a strong supporter and contributor for both our local Political Action Committee and our national PAC, which helps elect pro-merit shop legislators,” Capodanno said. “Rick truly embodies the spirit of ABC and is well-deserving of this award.”
